By air

Main international airports in Macedonia are Skopje Alexander the Great Airport (SKP) and Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport (OHD).

The national carrier Macedonian Airlines offers flights from several European countries to Macedonia. Macedonian Airlines destinations include: Austria (Vienna), Germany (Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Berlin), Italy (Rome), Switzerland (Zurich) and Turkey (Istanbul).

Other airlines that offer flights to Macedonia include: Adria Airways, Alitalia, Austrian Airlines, Croatia Airlines, CSA, Germanwings, Malev and Turkish Airlines.

By bus

There are direct coach services to Macedonia from Albania, Bulgaria, Germany, Serbia and Turkey.


By train

Macedonia has direct rail connections with Slovenia, Greece and Serbia.


By car

The main border crossings of Macedonia are: Gevgelija and Medžitlija-Níki (Greek border); Ćafa San and Stenje (Albanian border); Novo Selo-Petrich (Bulgarian border); and Tabanovce (Serbian border).



GETTING AROUND



By bus

In major cities such as Skopje, Kumanovo, Bitola and Tetovo one can travel by bus. Public transport is inexpensive.


By taxi

Taxis are cheap. They can be found at taxi stands or ordered by phone.


By car

Driving is on the right side of the road. International and foreign driving licenses are accepted. Driver must also have insurance documents and ownership/rental documents. The maximum alcohol level is 50 mg. Driver and passengers must wear seat belts. Children under age of 12 must travel in the back seats. Headlights must be on at all times. Speed limits: built-up areas – 60 km/h, outside built-up areas – 60-80 km/h, motorways – 120 km/h.
