By bus/tram
In bigger cities one can travel around by underground (in Kharkiv, Kiev and Dnipropetrovsk), trolleys and buses. Tickets can be bough on board.
By taxi
Official taxis have a ‘taxi’ sign on the roof and are equipped with taximeters. When taking a private taxis, one should negotiate the fare in advance.
By car
Driving is on the right side of the road. An international driving permit is required. Driver must also have insurance documents and ownership/rental documents. There is a zero tolerance policy on drunk driving. Driver and passengers must wear seat belts. Children under of 12 or less then 145 cm are not allowed to travel in the front seat. Speed limits: built-up areas – 60 km/h, outside built-up areas – 90 km/h, major roads – 110 km/h, motorways – 130 km/h. Mandatory equipment includes: first aid kit, fire extinguisher and warning triangle.
