TOP DIVE SITES – SOUTHERN NORWAY
Busteinsundet – an excellent spot for all levels and for night diving. Sometimes divers may see seals in this area. However, if there are no seals, there will be a lot of other marine species. The maximum depth is 25 m.Location: Hvasser (Vestfold)Type of dive: boat diveRequirements: BSAC Ocean Diver, PADI Open WaterDornier – the wreck of a German war plane lies at a depth of 36 m. The plane sank in 1945. Some parts of the wreck are well-preserved, the rest looks like a murky skeleton. The maximum depth is 30 m but there is a lot to see at shallow depths. The main attractions are underwater walls and a bit of marine life. When Parat, a small support vessel, came to the aid of Ferndale, the ships were attacked British planes and sank in 1944. Ferndale of lies at a depth of 60 m and Parat lies just next to her, behind the stern. The ship hit rocks and sank in 1940. The wreck is in perfect condition and is one of the best wrecks in Norway. The mast is covered with colourful sea anemones. M-426 – the wreck of a German minesweeper lies at a depth of 20 m. The warship was attacked by Beau fighters and sank in 1944. The wreck remains in fairly good condition, however, divers should beware of strong currents that are frequent in this area. A permission from the port authorities is required before diving this wreck.Location: KiristiansandType of dive: boat diveRequirements: BSAC Sports Diver, PADI Advanced Open WaterMV Seattle – the wreck of an impressive, 140 m long ship lies at a depth between 23–60 m. The shipwreck remains in pretty good condition. It is well-preserved and it is possible to penetrate it. This German cargo ship sank in 1945 after she hit rock bottom. It is one of the best and most famous wrecks in Norway.Location: KristiansandType of dive: boat diveRequirements: BSAC Sports Diver, PADI Advanced Open WaterOldenburg – she was one of the most successful German warships and participated in WW1 and WW2. After the war she served as a cargo ship. Oldenburg was attacked by British squadron and sank in 1945. Tom B - the wreck of a motor vessel lies at a depth 20 m. The ship sank in 1958 due to bad weather. The wreck was broken into three parts. Also some smaller pieces can be found around the wreck.
