GETTING THERE

By air

The main international airport in Moldova is Chisinau International Airport (KIV).

The national carriers are Air Moldova and Moldavian Airlines. Air Moldova destinations include: Austria (Vienna), Cyprus (Larnaca), Czech Republic (Prague), France (Paris), Germany (Frankfurt), Greece (Athens), Ireland (Dublin), Italy (Milan, Verona, Rome), Portugal (Lisbon), Romania (Bucharest), Russia (St. Petersburg, Moscow), Spain (Madrid), Turkey (Istanbul) and United Kingdom (London).

Moldavian Airlines offers direct flights to Hungary (Budapest) and also to Germany and Italy through Timisoara.

Other airlines that offer flights to Moldova include: Austrian Airlines, Carpatair, Air Baltic, Turkish Airlines, Tandem Aero, Siberian Airline, Malev, Tarom and Meridiana.

By bus

There are regular coach services to Moldova from Ukraine and Romania. While choosing this form of getting to Moldova, one should be prepared for waiting at border crossings.

By train

It is possible to get to Moldova by train from Ukraine, Romania, Russia, and Bulgaria.

By car

The main border crossings in Moldova are: Tiraspol (Ukrainian border); Leusheni, Sculeni and Giurgulesti (Romanian border).

GETTING AROUND

By bus/tram

Public transport in Moldova is cheap. In cities one can travel by buses, trolleybuses and minibuses. Tickets can be bought from kiosks or on board.

By taxi

In cities the official taxis are painted yellow. They can be found at taxi stands, hailed in the street or ordered by phone. It is recommended to agree the price with the driver before beginning the journey.

By car

Driving is on the right side of the road. International and foreign driving licenses are accepted. Driver must also have insurance documents and ownership/rental documents. There is a 0% blood-alcohol tolerance limit. Headlights must be on at all times. Driver and passengers must wear seat belts. Speed limits: built-up areas – 50 km/h, motorways – 100 to 110 km/h, open roads – 90 km/h. First-aid kit is required.
