Beaches

Malta, Gozo and Comino offer a number of beautiful beaches. Depending on the mood and companions one can choose from golden sand, red sand, rocks and blue lagoons. In many beaches it is possible to rent desk-chairs and umbrellas. For those who prefer recreation instead of simply lazing in the sun there are plenty of possibilities: scuba diving, snorkelling, windsurfing, jet and water skiing, para-kiting, beach volley, etc. Equipment can be hired on the beaches. The most popular sandy beaches in Malta are Ghadira Bay in Mellieha, Ghajn Tuffieha, Golden Bay, Gnejna Bay and Paradise Bay. The finest beaches in Gozo are Ramla Bay, small beaches in Xlendi and Marsalforn and very quite San Blas Bay. The rocky beaches can be found from Qui-si-Sana in Sliema to Balluta Bay in St. Julian’s. They are also extremely popular among sunbathers and swimmers.

Sightseeing

Malta is often described as one big open-air museum where one can explore 7000 years of history. Only in Valletta one must see the Palace of the Grand Masters, the National Library, the National Museum of Archeology, the National Museum of Fine Arts, St. John’s Cathedral and Manoel Theatre from the XVIII century. There are plenty of equally important and astonishing places in Mdina, Rabat, Attard, Mosta and Sliema. Holidays in Malta would be incomplete without visiting Gozo with number of attractions such as Calypso’s Cave, the Inland Sea and Azure Window. There are also seven megalithic temples to be found in Malta and Gozo.

 

Fishing

All anglers would be delighted with fishing in crystal clear Maltese waters which are home to a large variety of fish and underwater fauna. Both shore and boat fishing can be practiced all year round but the season for fishing is the late summer. Fishing enthusiasts who prefer boat fishing may choose from many fishing charters depending on the angler’s experience and requirements.

 

Rock climbing

Outdoor climbing in Malta is possible the whole year through. There are over 1200 rock climbing routes in Malta, Gozo and Comino. The diversity of possible styles of climbing is just amazing (traditional and sport climbing, bouldering, single and multi-pitch climbing, deep water soloing and sea level traversing).

 

Mountain biking

Biking can be the ideal way of exploring Malta as it offers beautiful mountain biking routes through old villages and the rough terrain. One can choose from more scenic or more technical routes depending on the mood and skills, of course. Bikes can be rented from many scooter and car hire centers.

 

Nightlife

Malta offers a vibrant nightlife with its numerous discos, piano bars, band clubs and jazz clubs. It suits to all tastes. If that is not enough, many cultural events are held in Malta – festivals (the Maltafest, the Malta Jazz Festival, the Valletta Baroque Festival, the Opera Festival, the Arts Festival, the Choir Festival), classical and modern concerts. As for clubbing, Paceville and St. Julian’s are the top places where international DJs appear frequently throughout the year. For excitement of a different kind, one can try any of the latest releases in the cinema, the pleasure of sampling Maltese cuisine in the tranquil local restaurants overlooking the harbours or some hazard at the casino.

Kids activities

Malta is also ideal for children. The most popular places for kids are Popey Village (authentic wooden village), Fun Park and Playmobil Funpark with numerous carouselles, games and rides. Last but not least, visit in Mediterreneo Marine Park can be a great way to understand better the animal world through entertainment. It is possible to watch amazing shows with sea lions, parrots and dolphins.
