GETTING AROUND



By bus/tram

In Riga one can travel by bus, minibus, tram and trolleybus. Tickets can be bought on board or at kiosks.


By taxi

In Latvia there are state and private taxis. They can be found at taxi stands, hailed in the street or ordered by phone. All vehicles should be equipped with operating taximeters.


By car

Driving is on the right side of the road. International and foreign driving licenses are accepted. Driver must also have insurance documents and ownership/rental documents. It is forbidden to drive with alcohol level higher than 0.5 milligrams per milliliter of blood. The headlights must be on at all times. Driver and passengers must wear seat belts. Children under age of 4 must sit in child car seats. Speed limits: residential zones – 20 km/h, built-up areas – 50 km/h, open roads – 90 km/h, highways – 100 km/h. It is obligatory to have in the car: a fire extinguisher, replacement bulb kit, first-aid kit and a warning triangle. It is also recommended to have a visibility vest and a torch.
