GETTING AROUND
By bus/tram
Public transport in the cities is very efficient. In Helsinki one can travel by bus, metro or tram. There is one type of tickets for all means of transport. Tickets can be purchased from ticket machines, on board or via mobile phone text message.
By taxi
Taxis are plentiful. They are available at taxi stands at airports and near the major hotels. Taxis can be also hailed in the streets or ordered by phone. All vehicles have a yellow ‘taksi’ sign on the roof. Fares are higher at night and in the weekends.
By car
Driving is on the right side of the road. Foreign driving licenses and international driving permits are accepted. Driver must also have insurance documents and ownership/rental documents. The use of seat belts is mandatory both in the front as well as in the back seats. Driver must not drive with a blood alcohol level of more than 0.5 milligrams per milliliter of blood. Dipped headlights must be on at all times. In the winter season (from 1 December to 1 March) the use of snow tires is obligatory. Speed limits: 40 to 60 km/h – built-up areas, 90 to 100 km/h – outside built-up areas, 120 km/h – highways, 100 km/h – highways in winter.
