GETTING THERE

By air

There are eight major airports in Croatia: Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Pula, Rijeka, Zadar, Brac and Osijek. Most major European airlines have direct scheduled flights to Croatia. These include: Croatia Airlines, British Airways, Lufthansa, Alitalia, Austrian Airlines, Air France, CSA and LOT.

By sea

There is also a possibility to get to Croatia by sea. However, there are only ferries from Italy to Croatia:

- from Ancona to Split, Zadar and Vis Island,

- from Bari to Dubrovnik,

- from Trieste to Rovinj and Porec,

- from Pescara to Split and Hvar Island,

- from Venice to Porec, Pula, Rabac, Rovinj and Mali Losinj.

By bus

Some carriers from Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Germany, Czech Republic and Switzerland offer connections to Zagreb and other main towns in Croatia.

By train

It is also possible to reach Croatia by train, from practically anywhere in Europe. It is easy to get directly to Zagreb but other destinations will require a transfer in the capital.

By car

Travelling by car from nearby European countries does not take much time. One can choose to drive all the way or drive to Italy and take a ferry to Croatia.

GETTING AROUND

By bus/tram

Public transport in Croatia is easy and cheap. Buses run regularly throughout Croatia, from early in the morning to very late at night. In Zagreb and Osijek one can travel around by tram.

By taxi

Taxis are quite expensive. They are available at taxi rank or may be ordered by phone (Tel.: 970). Most of the meters start at 25 HRK for the first kilometer and then charge 10 HRK for each additional kilometer.

By car

Driving is on the right side of the road. International Driving Permit is recommended but foreign licenses are accepted. Driver must also have a valid passport (or ID card), Green Card, national identity sticker, first aid kit, roadside emergency marker, and spare tire and jack. Driver must not drive with a blood alcohol level of more than 0,05 per mill. Driver and passengers must wear seat belts (if available). Speed limits: built-up areas – 50 km/h, main highways – 80 km/h, express ways – 100 km/h, motorways – 130 km/h.
