GETTING AROUND
By bus/tram
In most cities it is possible to travel by bus. In major cities (such as Plovdiv and Varna) there are also trolleybuses. In Sofia the public transport system is the most developed and has bus, trams, trolleybus and underground services. Tickets can be bought from kiosks or on board.
By taxi
Taxis can be found at taxi stands or ordered by phone. Vehicles are painted yellow, except the ‘unofficial’ taxis. The extra fee is added for night rides and when the taxi is ordered by phone.
By car
Driving is on the right side of the road. International driving licenses are recommended. Driver must also have insurance documents and car registration documents. Driver must not drive with a blood alcohol level of more than 0.5 grams/litre. Driver and passengers must wear seat belts. Speed limits: built-up areas – 50 km/h, outside towns – 90 km/h, motorways – 120 km/h.
