GETTING THERE


By air

Main international airports in Bosnia and Herzegovina are: Sarajevo International Airport (SJJ), Banja Luka (BNX) and Mostar (OMO).

The national carrier B&H Airlines offers flights from many European countries to Bosnia and Herzegovina. B&H Airlines destinations include: Austria (Vienna), Croatia (Zagreb), Czech republic (Prague), Germany (Cologne, Frankfurt, Stuttgart), Macedonia (Skopje), Montenegro (Podgorica), Serbia (Belgrade), Switzerland (Zurich) and Turkey (Istanbul).

Other airlines that offer flights to Bosnia and Herzegovina include: Adria Airways, Austrian Airlines, Croatia Airlines, Germanwings, Lufthansa, Malev and Turkish Airlines.

By sea

There are no sea ports in Bosnia and Herzegovina.


By bus

There are direct daily routes to Bosnia and Herzegovina from Croatia and Serbia. But companies such as Eurolines (or Centrotrans – a member of Eurolines) offer routes from many other European countries.

By train

Bosnia and Herzegovina has direct rail connections with Croatia and Hungary.


By car

The conditions of the roads have improved recently. However, every person traveling to Bosnia and Herzegovina by car should know that some roads are still in poor condition, road signs in Republika Srpska are mostly in Cyrillic and it may be really difficult to find a mechanic who speaks English. Road blocks are frequent.


GETTING AROUND


By bus/tram

Public transport in Bosnia and Herzegovina is cheap and efficient. In Sarajevo it is possible to travel by tram, trolleybus, bus or minibus. Tickets can be purchased at kiosks or on board.


By taxi

Taxis are inexpensive and taxi drivers in Sarajevo are famous for being honest. Vehicles are usually equipped with taximeters. Taxis can be found at taxi stands or ordered by phone.


By car

Driving is on the right side of the road. International driving licenses are accepted. Driver must also have insurance documents and ownership/rental documents. Driver must not drive with a blood alcohol level of more than 0.03%. Driver and passengers must wear seat belts. The use of headlights is obligatory at all times. In winter season (from November 15 to April 15) winter tires (or chains) are mandatory. Speed limits on most roads is 60 km/h.
